Topic 2: Sizing, selection, design and installation of air valves

Presenter:  Colin Kirkland of Bermad

Changes to the DTS reference standard for heated water services within the 2019 PCA requires air valves to be installed at;

a)     the highest point or points of the circulatory piping;

b)     on the secondary flow adjacent to the water heater or bank of water heaters;

c)     in an accessible location; and

d)     with a connected drain delivering over a tundish

as extracted from clause 10.8.2 Air elimination valves – AS/NZS3500.4-2018. The selection and sizing of air valves is quite an art so this hot topic will take into consideration the requirements for the design and installation of these devices.
